Secretary General
Arab Federation of Capital Markets (AFCM)
Arab capital markets are no longer simply adapting to change, they are beginning to shape it.
Across our region, ambitious reforms, new technologies, evolving investment products and increasingly sophisticated investors are redefining what capital markets can achieve. The question before us is no longer whether our markets will transform, but how boldly, and how collectively we choose to lead that transformation.
In April 2027, the AFCM Annual Conference will bring our community to Egypt: one of the Arab world’s most influential economies, a historic center of finance and enterprise, and a market entering an exciting new chapter of growth and modernization.
Hosted by Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry (MCDR), this edition will convene the leaders shaping the future of exchanges, clearing houses, depositories, regulators, investment institutions and market infrastructure. Together, we will explore the forces redefining our industry, from capital formation, liquidity and regional integration to artificial intelligence, digital assets and the next generation of post-trade systems.
But the AFCM Annual Conference is about more than the conversations taking place on stage. It is where relationships begin, partnerships take shape and ideas move closer to action. It is where the Arab capital markets community comes together not merely to discuss the future, but to build it.
On behalf of AFCM, I warmly invite you to join us in Egypt for two days of bold thinking, meaningful connections and conversations that can move markets forward.
Egypt is ready. Our community is ready. The next chapter starts here.
It is a privilege, on behalf of Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry (MCDR), to host the AFCM Annual Conference in Cairo on April 2027. This edition marks an important milestone as, for the first time, the AFCM Annual Conference will be hosted by a clearing house, reflecting the increasingly central role of post-trade institutions in developing modern, efficient and resilient capital markets.
Bringing this important gathering to Egypt is particularly fitting at a time when the country is accelerating the development of its financial markets and strengthening its position within the regional investment landscape.
Egypt offers a distinctive setting, combining a long financial heritage, a diverse economy and a strategic location connecting Africa, the Arab world and the Mediterranean. Ongoing reforms, infrastructure development and continued efforts to modernize the capital market are reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional gateway for investment.
Within this evolving market, MCDR provides a robust foundation for secure and reliable clearing, settlement, depository and registry services. We continue to advance digital solutions that bring services closer to investors, streamline subscription processes and enable new market services. This sustained commitment to innovation supports the technological development of the Egyptian capital market while maintaining operational efficiency, reliability and resilience.
These developments also reflect many of the priorities that will shape the conference agenda. Across two days, the conference will explore regional integration, market resilience, liquidity, responsible AI adoption, and developments in capital formation and post-trade infrastructure. Our aim is to translate these priorities into practical cooperation that strengthens market connectivity and expands investment opportunities.
I warmly invite all AFCM members, partners and the wider financial community to join us in Cairo for meaningful discussions and lasting connections, enriched by Egypt’s hospitality and culture.

The Arab Federation of Capital Markets was established in June 1978 to be the guiding body for the Arab stock exchanges, under the recommendation of the Arab Central Banks Conference, held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The headquarter of the Arab Federation of Capital Markets is located in Beirut, Lebanon.
The AFCM is the Arab industry group for 18 exchanges and 7 Clearing houses (CSD’s), and multiple of affiliate members (financial institutions, brokerage firms) from all around the Arab regions (GCC, Levant and Arab African countries). The Federation was set up to contribute to the development of regulations and promoting harmonized and proactive legislations, and exchanging viewpoints and providing opportunities for cooperation among members.
Misr for Central Clearing, Depository, and Registry (MCDR) was established as an Egyptian joint-stock company pursuant to Article 103 of the Executive Regulations of Capital Market Law No. 95 of 1992. The company obtained in 1994 the license to operate in clearing and settlement of financial transactions related to securities traded on the stock exchange and related services.
The primary purpose of founding the company was to carry out clearing and settlement activities for transactions conducted on the stock exchange, and to implement a central custody system for securities. Besides its crucial role in settling trading operations and conducting clearing for securities, the company also plays an influential role in increasing liquidity and enhancing the turnover rate of securities. Additionally, it provides depositary bank services for foreign securities and issues Egyptian deposit certificates.

The AFCM Annual Conference has become the region’s defining meeting point for the leaders and institutions driving the evolution of Arab capital markets. Bringing together exchanges, regulators, clearing houses, depositories, investment firms, technology providers and global financial institutions, the conference offers a unique platform for examining emerging market trends, confronting shared challenges and identifying new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
With each edition hosted in a different Arab financial center, the conference captures the diversity and ambition of the region’s markets while connecting local priorities with global developments. Its value extends well beyond the formal program, creating a trusted environment where perspectives are challenged, relationships are strengthened and new initiatives begin to take shape.
In April 2027, the conference comes to Egypt, hosted by Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry (MCDR). Across two high-impact days, we will explore the forces redefining the industry, from capital formation, liquidity and regional integration to artificial intelligence, digital assets and the future of market and post-trade infrastructure.
